Birmingham wheels dicht ?

Vandaag het nieuws dat SpedeworthIncarace geen races gaat organiseren op Birmingham wheels. Daaronder een bericht
van Save Birmingham Wheels Raceway die vertellen dat er toch een mogelijkheid is om de baan open te houden.

Birmingham Wheels Raceway

It is sad news to announce that Birmingham Wheels Raceway will not be re-opening.

Following meetings that have taken place with myself and the other tenants alongside the council we have been unable to negotiate the terms of a new lease.

One of the reasons behind this situation is there was only a short-term lease for one year and at the end of the lease only a possibility of one more year at the most.

As it stands the track has got no electricity due to one of the main transformers being burnt out and this can now take upto three months to repair.

Obviously, this is now going to cause issues with the published fixture lists. I am asking for everyone to be patient whilst this situation is addressed. Once progress in updating the fixture list is underway further announcements will be made via the websites.

I apologise for any inconvenience and I hope everyone can understand the situation.

Thank you.

Statement from Save Birmingham Wheels:

The real situation!

As you know, Save Birmingham Wheels was set up at a point where the licensees were told they had to leave the site on 31st January.

Our aim was to engage with the council who, at that time, were refusing to speak to the businesses operating sports at the park.

We have successfully achieved this, through a shed-load of publicity which led to support from the Mayor of the West Midlands and ultimately the leaders of the two political blocks in the city council, Labour and Conservative.

There is now a huge amount of goodwill and political momentum in favour of keeping the Wheels Park alive and kicking.

This has manifested itself as an offer of a lease from the council - for a year initially, with an undertaking to work towards extending this, and a mechanism in place to do so.

This is a huge turn around, in just a few weeks - the work undertaken by passionate individuals, and the support from industry professionals and trade bodies, has been overwhelming.

So, the lease is there; and It looks pretty good financially, for the right person or organisation to take it on.

We need to find that person or business. We are happy to talk to everyone who is interested.

Each business, charity and club operating at Birmingham Wheels has it s own ambitions, limitations and hopes for its own future, and it is completely understandable that an individual company would feel that Wheels is not for them.

So whilst we are really sad that Incarace/Spedeworth dont feel they can continue their association with Wheels, we completely understand.

However, we continue to discuss the lease with the council, and are doing so as a diverse group of businesses on the site - and if we can attract the right business or individual to take on this (very good) lease, then the future of Wheels looks relatively rosy.

And, of course, there will still be a brilliant Stockcar track at the end of all that.

Thanks for all your support, and so sorry we cant answer all the dms were getting - but we read them all.
